Late Spring Outdoor Update: Open water season is here!

The sun is shining and the fish are starting to bite! Water temps are still cool, so anglers are having to work a little more for the fish.

Slip bobbers and a leach have been producing nice walleye and crappies! The smallmouth are aggressive and biting, too. Take a kid fishing is coming up June 10-12. Enjoy of a weekend of fishing with a kiddo and create memories of a lifetime. Licenses are not needed for this weekend of fishing!

Walleye Fun fact: Did you know that studies have shown that walleyes live as long as 29 years in some waters?

Behind the dirt with Jordan Yira: Food plot on a budget? Try a no-till plot! No-till plots are excellent plots for those that don’t have the heavy…

Spring where you at?! April Outdoor report: Many anglers are itching for ice to come off so they can get into a good spring crappie bite. The question that’s being asked all around: Will the ice be off for fishing opener?!

My guess is… Yes, we have seen very similar conditions to this in 2013. Mother Nature will come through. Some of the bigger lakes may take longer but there will be water to fish!

Season A kicked off in the woods for Turkey hunting. Some tough hunting conditions with rain, snow, sleet, and high winds made for some difficult hunting. Very little success occurred in the BLA. Hunters can expect to see better bird activity as temps rise and the sun shines. However, one can still have some luck if hunting fields or near…

February came and went in the blink of an eye-and brought all kinds of weather with it.

One of my favorite things about winter in the BLA is the amount of winter outdoor opportunities!

There is still a lot of great ice fishing to be done. Anglers make sure to get your new license on March 1st for the new upcoming fishing season! Some of my favorite fishing occurs in the late ice season. The pan fishing opportunities are abundant and you should have a little warmer weather to enjoy! As we start to shift toward spring, it’s a great time to walk your hunting property and do some scouting. Hunters can find a lot of great signs and maybe even some antlers. It’s never too early to think about land management tactics for the fall. I enjoy…

Winter fun! Just because hunting season is wrapped up for this year doesn’t mean you can’t think about next year!

Winter is a great time to get out in the woods and do some scouting and shed hunting. Deer are starting to lose their antlers, so this is a great time to get the family outdoors and look for some antlers!

Ice fishing has been underway for awhile now and still reports of great fishing! As the winter progresses anglers may have to work for the fish more but still should be able to find a good bite! Anglers can find luck in deeper water with a dead stick at this time of year.

The Brained Jaycees Ice fishing extravaganza is right around the corner, taking place on the 29th! If you can’t make it in person there is also the virtual…
