Outdoorsman Update: Jordan Yira Issue 2

December Update, Holiday edition: Winter is here in the BLA and brings many opportunities for the outdoorsmen and women!

Deer hunters just wrapped up the muzzleloader season but archers still have until the end of the month to punch a tag. Geese hunters are still in luck until Christmas Eve. Grouse and pheasant hunters have until January 2nd to chase birds.

The hard water is here! Fishermen can expect to find many bays and smaller lakes froze over! Some of the bigger lakes in the area may still be open or have weak ice. You can always check with the local resorts and bait shops on ice conditions. Some of the best fishing in my opinion happens around this time! While it is a fun and exciting time, it’s important to know that ice conditions can change very quick at this time of year.

If you enjoy sitting on a bucket check out The Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza on January 29th. More info came be found here: https://icefishing.org

There are many great local events happening in the lakes area during the holiday season. Be sure to follow Woods To Water's Instagram, Facebook, and Blog!

Pro Tip: Early ice can lead to a lot of great fishing. You may find bigger fish in shallower depths than usual. Fishing aggressive with a jigging spoon and minnow head has been my go to for early ice walleyes!

Fun fact: The Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza is the largest charitable ice fishing contest on earth. Founded in 1991 the event has been held annually 10 miles north of Brainerd, Minnesota.

This Month's Recipe is Venison Chili!

1 lb of cubed venison or ground (I used fresh tenderloins for added flavor) 1- green pepper 1- onion 2- cans of beans (I used kidney beans and chili beans) 2- cans of diced tomatoes 1- can of corn 1- can of slices olives 1- chili packet In a frying pan add cubed meat or ground and brown. For added flavor I added olive oil and butter to fry the cubed tenderloins in. Add all ingredients above into a croc pot and mix in chili packet, stir in ingredients and turn croc pot on high for 4-6 hours. One way to eat, add toppings! I love sour cream and shredded cheese on mine. Enjoy for days to come!

We'll chat next month.  Happy Fishing!
