Outdoorsman Update: Jordan Yira Issue 7

Late Spring Outdoor Update: Open water season is here!

The sun is shining and the fish are starting to bite! Water temps are still cool, so anglers are having to work a little more for the fish.

Slip bobbers and a leach have been producing nice walleye and crappies! The smallmouth are aggressive and biting, too. Take a kid fishing is coming up June 10-12. Enjoy of a weekend of fishing with a kiddo and create memories of a lifetime. Licenses are not needed for this weekend of fishing!

Walleye Fun fact: Did you know that studies have shown that walleyes live as long as 29 years in some waters?

Behind the dirt with Jordan Yira: Food plot on a budget? Try a no-till plot! No-till plots are excellent plots for those that don’t have the heavy machinery or just want to make a plot tucked back in the woods. No-till seed mixes often are very soil friendly and easy to establish. They also don’t require much prep work! Pick a location that has well drained soil with a little sunlight, test the pH of the soil too. First step is to clear debris from the soil such as leaves, sticks and anything else. I like to use a rake to rough up the soil a little bit to get better soil to seed contact. Next use a broadcast seed spread and spread the seeds throughout. I then like to walk around the plot and use the rake to make better soil to seed contact. Plant right before a rain fall for best results. Now enjoy the results this fall! Below is my favorite no-till mix! Any questions on this method or anything Land management; don’t hesitate to reach out! - Jordan Yira @Jordanyira_outdoors

Fish Opener Recipe: WLTs - (Walleye, Lettuce, Tomato) This is one of my favorite ways to eat walleye. First time I had this was when I was a kid and we were in Canada on a fishing trip. We ate fish for every meal so we got creative!

1. Cook walleye whatever method you like. (Pan fry, deep fry, baked) I like deep fried 2. Use bread of choice. Toast and butter 3. Cut thin strip of lettuce, tomato and cheese 4. Add walleye to bread and lettuce and tomato, add tarter sauce or sauce of choice. 5. Enjoy your WLT
