WINTER “what to do” in the BLA!

There's plenty of fun to be had in the Brainerd Lakes Area during the Winter. Check out our list of fun activities below to get outside and enjoy the TRUE NORTH.

 

 

Sledding, Tubing, Snowboarding and Downhill Skiing

The Brainerd Lakes Area offers excellent downhill skiing, snow boarding, and some of Minnesota’s best tubing with one of the largest tubing hills in Minnesota at Mount Ski Gull located just a short drive north of Brainerd and Baxter.

Big Sev Sledding | Brainerd

Sledding hill located at Hitch-Wayne Park off South Seventh Street. Sleds available for public use. 

Fritz Loven Park | Lake Shore

Bring your own sled and take a visit to Fritz Loven park for it's awesome free to the public sledding hill located near the park on top of the hill.

Mount Ski Gull |  Lake Shore

Enjoy downhill skiing and snowboarding on several runs for all experience levels and beginners can start out on the newly enhanced bunny hill. Lift Tickets and Rental are available and must be booked ahead of time here

The tubing hill is considered Minnesota’s largest at over 1,200 feet and offers a high speed tow. 

 

Cross Country Skiing and Snow Shoeing

The Brainerd Lakes Area offers a great selection of Minnesota Cross Country Ski and Snow Shoeing trails in addition to our scenic lakes!

Fritz Loven Park | Lake Shore

Great trails perfect for hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing located right in the Lakes Area!

Uppgaard Wildlife Management | Crosslake

Beautiful 110-acre tract of rolling woodlands, small lakes and marshes along county road 16 near Crosslake.

Veterens Trail | Jenkins

Look for the map posted at the trailhead to orient yourself and follow the paths. Enjoy the solitude and beauty of the wetland walkway area.

Arboretum Trails | Brainerd

When the snow flies and the trails are able to be groomed the Arboretum lights 5k from 4:30 pm to 10pm. Many are groomed for dual use while others are designated for either skating or classic. Snowshoe Rental, Trails and Classes can be found here.

Cuyuna Trails | Crosby

Over 55 miles of stunning single track (and counting) has been carved into the landscape and has changed the area forever. With volunteers grooming the snowy single track all season, this area is now one of the top Winter Fat Bike and Snowshoe destinations to escape to. Snowshoers are encouraged to explore the trails to help pack the snow and you can rent them from us during your stay.

Fat Tire Biking in Crosby

Fat Tire Bike in Crosby With over 55 miles of single track trails (most of which are groomed in the Winter), there has never been a more beautiful fat tire trail to ride. Start your adventure in the early morning light with a hot cup of coffee on Main Street in Crosby. Bundle up and head to the trails just seconds away from Main Street. Trails, Rentals and Food information can be found here.

 

 

Ice Skating

A trip to the rink is a perfect family-friendly winter activity! Most rinks are bring your own, but Easy Riders in Brainerd offers ice skate rentals on site.

Gregory Park | Brainerd

The Annual Ice Skating Party will be held on Sunday, February 13th  from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Gregory Park Skating Rink/ Warming House. Enjoy Hot Dogs, Chili, Chips, Soda, Hot Cocoa, Water, and several goodies to share. Free skates too use and several contests throughout the day such as speed skating, relays, and more. 

Nisswa Rink

Normal Hours: Monday - Thursday 3:30pm - 8pm | Fridays 3:30 - 9pm | Saturdays 10am - 9pm | Sundays 11am - 6pm

Pine River Rink

The skating rink is open 7 days a week from sunrise until 10:00 p.m. For skaters who do not have their own skates, skates are available through Pine River Community Ed @ 218-587-2080 during regular school hours.

Breezy Point Hockey Center

Indoor ice rink - call for open skate times.

Breezy Point Resort Rink

Lighted outdoor public ice rink on the lake in front of Marina II and Dockside Lounge - bring your own skates!

Moonlite Bay Rink| Crosslake

Lighted outdoor public ice rink on the lake - bring your own skates!

Cragun’s Resort Rink | Gull Lake

A big, lighted, resurfaced outdoor ice skating rink with bonfire and marshmallows is set up on Gull Lake. 

 

Ice Fishing + Fish House Rentals

With over four hundred lakes and rivers within twenty five miles you are sure to find the species and ice fishing experience you are looking for.

Nisswa Adventure Rentals 

Not only can you rent snowmobiles, but also have helmets, gloves, jackets, and bibs available for rent.

Modern ice house rentals are like little personal ice fishing cabins on the lake.
